Journey Church

Statement of Beliefs

STATEMENT OF BELIEFS

Journey Church was established in response to God’s call. It is God’s Church, established to glorify Him, with Jesus Christ as its head. We glorify God through the public worship of God, devoting ourselves to the apostles’ teaching, observing The Lord’s Supper, praying, and fellowship with one another encourages one another. We are to be known by our love for one another (Acts 2:42, Hebrews 10:25, John 13:35) This Statement of Beliefs is intended to state our understanding and faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as Savior and Lord:

• We believe Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Jesus. He is God’s Son, given by God for eternal life for whoever believes in Him. (John 3:16, 14:6)

• We believe if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9-10)

• We believe when you come to believe in Jesus, God sends the Spirit of his Son into our hearts. (Galatians 4:6)

The Church, those worshiping Him at Journey Church, share beliefs stated within this framework:

• Who is God?

• Why does God matter?

• Who is Jesus?

• Why does Jesus matter?

Who is God?

In the beginning, God already was and always had been. He made the world and everything in it. He created man in his own image, male and female he created them, to seek Him. He formed each of us in our mother’s womb. He knows all the ways of the people. He knows what we will say, even before a word is on our tongue. He has written all the days formed for each of us. (Genesis 1:1, 1:27, Acts 17:26-27, Psalm 139:3-4, 139:13, 139:16 )

God led men to write Scripture, it was not of their own doing. Scripture is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, so that we may be complete and equipped for every good work. (2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 3:16)

Who does God matter?

We believe that all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And the wages of sin is death. As a result, we are separated from God. We cannot be saved from this separation by our own doing, but by His grace, we can be saved by faith. God so loves the world that He sent His Only Son, that whoever believes in Him would not die but would have eternal life. (Romans 3:23, 6:23, Ephesians 2:8, 4:18, Isaiah 59:2, John 3:16 )

Who is Jesus?

We believe Jesus is the Son of God, conceived by a work of The Holy Spirit and born of a virgin named Mary. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of His power. Jesus committed no sin and could therefore be offered to God the Father to take away our sins. (Luke 1:34-35, Hebrews 1:3, 1 Peter 2:22, 1 John 3:5)

Why does Jesus matter?

We believe that while we were still sinners, Jesus Christ died for us. That after making His offering of Himself for our sins, He was raised from the dead, and later He returned to Heaven, where He sits at the Father’s right hand. Jesus has all authority in Heaven and on earth. He is both Lord and Savior, and belief in Him is the only way to be saved. Jesus is currently preparing a place for those who are saved (The Church) and He will come again for believers to be with Him forever. (Romans 5:6-8, Mark 16:5-6, Acts 1:9-11, Matthew 28:18, Acts 2:36, 1 Peter 3:22, John 14:6, 14:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

As ones saved solely by the work of Jesus (The Church), we believe we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart and all our soul and all our mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves. We believe we are to follow Jesus’ example and that of the New Testament believers by being baptized. We believe Jesus commanded The Church to remember Him and look forward to His return by participating in The Lord’s Supper. (Matthew 22:37-38, 3:13, 3:16-17, Acts 8:35-38, Luke 22:15-20)
